Thursday at 7 PM – 9 PM

Texas State Capitol
1100 Congress Ave, Austin, Texas 78701

We could be just days away from the Senate voting on an Affordable Care Act repeal bill that is both disastrous and cruel. But we’re not going to let them vote without hearing the loud voices of Texans!

This may be our last chance to show the Senate what we’re made of – to tell them NO to gutting Medicaid, NO repeal of the ACA, and NO to Trumpcare.

Thursday night we will surround the Texas State Capitol with a human chain–circling the Capitol with our collective voices, our bodies and our power. Join us!

IF EVER THERE WERE A NEED TO SHOW UP IN PERSON, THIS IS IT! WE NEED AT LEAST 500 PEOPLE TO MAKE A FULL CIRCLE AROUND THE CAPITOL!

WHAT TO BRING:
Write a personal letter about how the ACA or Medicaid has impacted your life. Include your concerns about Trumpcare and backdoor dealings. Bring the letter to read out loud or simply hand it in for us to deliver to a senator staffer. You don’t have to speak if you don’t want to, supporting others is just as important. Bring your friends!!! Bring your children and babies!!!! Get the word out. We need BIG NUMBERS in attendance!! (Also, probably bring your bug spray.)

Rumor has it that congress is close to having enough votes to pass a modified version of the AHCA, and voting may happen as early as Monday, May 1. Why is the AHCA so bad for Americans? The AHCA would rollback Medicaid expansion, causing over 24 million Americans to lose coverage, and premiums would increase for middle-class and older Americans. Importantly, the bill allows states to remove protections for folks with preexisting conditions, so insurers could refuse to provide coverage to millions. And, the bill allows states to waive requirements that insurers cover essential health benefits, including maternity care and mental health care, while letting insurers reinstate lifetime spending caps.

The bill is so bad that its very authors included a provision to make sure it does not apply to the health care plan offered to members of Congress. If the bill isn’t good enough for House Republicans, how is it acceptable for the American people?

SCRIPT!
Say: “Hi, I’m a constituent of Senator/Representative _____ and I’m calling today because I’m very concerned with the proposed changes to the AHCA which had previously failed with bipartisan votes against it. Americans agree that access to healthcare is a human right, and allowing states to let providers make coverage inaccessible to those with pre-existing conditions or allow providers to offer sham insurance plans is bad for our citizens and your constituents. [If you have a story of how the ACA has helped you or a loved one, tell it!] My zip code is _____.”

TIPS!
-Keep them on the phone. Make them answer your questions. You are their constituent. You deserve representation.
-Always leave a message in their inbox. Show them your voice is present.
-Call multiple field offices for your rep. Especially Senators, who have 6 or 7 each.
-Bring questions about other issues to the table. Ask about as many issues as are relevant to you.
-Invite people to this event.
-Engage friends. Even non-political friends.

Roger Williams Wants You to Email Him. No, Really.

In last week’s newsletter, Rep. Roger Williams asked constituents to email him at TexasCD25@mail.house.gov.

Here is what he says:

I am compiling thoughts, opinions and firsthand accounts from my fellow Texans, so that my policies can be better tailored to fit your needs.

If you are an entrepreneur who feels like government regulation is preventing you from being competitive in your industry, I want to know about it. If you are unable to meet payroll because you are spending too much time and money on costly and unnecessary compliance measures, I want to hear your story.

If you think you are sending too much of your hard earned money to Uncle Sam or feel you are spending too much time filling out paper work this tax season, please tell me.

If you are finding out for the first time how difficult it is to get approved for a mortgage or any other kind of loan even though you are in good standing, write me.

Please share your story by emailing me at TexasCD25@mail.house.gov . I very much look forward to hearing from you.

So, if you are a constituent of Rep. Roger Williams’ TX-25, please share your story with him.

Since Roger is on record wanting to repeal the Affordable Care Act — with NO replacement — this is an opportunity to share your story of how the ACA helped you or someone you know. Maybe you couldn’t start your business until the ACA made health insurance more affordable. Or perhaps losing the ACA would force you to close your business because the costs of health insurance would be too high to continue. It doesn’t have to be about the ACA, but the more personal you can make your story, the better.

If your are not in TX-25, please do not email Rep. Williams. You can find ways to contact your own rep here
